Workshop – Language and Technology
In the Language & Tech workshop, pupils discover how language and technology reinforce each other. This unique combination not only stimulates language development, but also creativity, collaboration and digital literacy. The workshop consists of two parts, which are delivered one after the other.
In the first part, the pupils will come up with and write a story under the guidance of a real author. After a short reading from her book *Stralend op het podium*, they will set to work. Armed with pencil and paper, they will write down their story.
Afterwards, the results will be briefly discussed before part two begins.
The second part involves ‘bringing the written story to life’. We use tablets for this, so that pupils can discover the technical tools available to them to stimulate their imagination to the full. By animating their own stories, pupils learn how important a strong storyline is and how technology can help to bring ideas to life.
Taal & Tech is aligned with the core objectives for Dutch and digital literacy, and enables pupils to experience, in an inspiring way, how writing, creativity and technology go hand in hand.
Key objectives
The pupils enjoy learning to write. They are working on developing legible handwriting.
They learn to look after their own physical and mental health. Through writing, they learn to express themselves and communicate. Pupils develop
social-emotional skills (self-awareness, self-management), self-confidence and resilience. Maintaining focus and making responsible choices. (core objectives 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 and 34)
Students learn to use computers to communicate. This allows them to translate topics as they perceive them through a digital tool. They acquire some knowledge about and appreciation of aspects of their environment. In addition, they acquire programming in an exploratory phase. They also learn to deal with new media, such as computers, tablets and iPads. Pupils learn to look differently at their environment, as well as improving their sensory perceptions. (core objectives 54 and 55)
Key objectives
As the students learn to observe their surroundings more closely, they develop a greater sense of connection with that environment. They will also come to appreciate that environment and all its facets more fully.
